Best Diablo 4 Season 1 Chain Lightning Sorcerer Build: Skills, Items, Aspects, Paragon Glyphs

Chain Lightning Sorcerer is one of the most powerful, satisfying, and fun-to-play class builds in Diablo 4. There's an immense satisfaction in seeing and hearing lightning surge across the battlefield, frying everything it touches. It's the definition of chaos, and there's truly nothing like Chain Lightning in this game.

Despite the heavy Season of Malignant Nerfs that hit the Sorcerer class, Chain Lightning is still one of the best class builds to level up quickly and annihilate foes in endgame activities like Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons. While survivability is an issue post-level 50, there are ways to overcome that barrier and electrocute every foe that steps in your way.

Our ever-evolving best Chain Lightning Sorcerer guide in Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant covers everything you need to know about this class, including the best Skills to unlock, Stats to prioritize, Legendary Aspects to get, Malignant Hearts to equip, and more. Without further ado, let's get right into it.

Diablo 4 Chain Lightning Sorcerer Overview: Is it a Good Class in Season 1?

Despite the word around the internet, Chain Lightning Sorcerer is still an incredible class to use in Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant. The basic skill, Arc Lash, is powerful enough to decimate ads and Elite, but you can pair it up with Mystical Frost Nova for Vulnerable and  Chain Lightning to deal unprecedented AOE damage across the board. If that wasn't enough, you can double, if not triple, the overall damage with the Unstable Currents Ultimate.

Chain Lightning is also very simple to use and requires very little planning and positioning, so you should it able to master it more quickly than something like Firewall.

As for the defenses, you can have Ice Armor and Teleport to help you move around the battlefield while freeing you up from any CC abilities. Avoiding the enemy's CC abilities is extremely important for survival in late-game activities, and we will cover all of that later on.

Mana generation can be an issue early on in the game, but as you progress, you will get items and unlock passives that will boost it to a degree where you can easily spam your Core and Mastery skills. With all of that said, let's get into the nitty gritty of our Chain Lightning Sorcerer build.

Best Chain Lightning Sorcerer Skills in Diablo 4 Season 1 (Endgame)

As you cross the level 50 threshold, your main objective will be to Stun enemies with the Chain Lightning skills, Freeze and make them Vulnerable with Frost Nova, and then use Chain Lightning again to maximize the AOE and single target damage to Stunned and Vulnerable enemies.

For that to happen, you must spend all 58 skills points (including Renown ones) wisely. Below you can find the layout of all skill point distribution for the best Chain Lightning build in Diablo 4 Season 1.

Mobility, defense, and resource management are essential beyond level 50, and Ice Armor, Flame shield, and Teleport will get you just that.

The Paragon Board (courtesy of maxroll.gg) further enhances your skills and prepares you for end-game activities. You can equip Glyphs to gain passive buffs, such as increased damage dealt to Elite enemies. You can upgrade these Glyphs by completing Nightmare Dungeons.
For the best Chain Lightning Sorcerer build, we recommend upgrading and using the following Glyphs:

  • Destruction
  • Flamefeeder
  • Control
  • Tactician
  • Territorial
  • Exploit

As for the Legendary Nodes, we recommend unlocking in the following order:

  • Static Surge (Unlock the Legendary Node)
  • Frigid Fate (Go through the board but don't unlock the Legendary Node)
  • Burning Instinct (Go through the board but don't unlock the Legendary Node)
  • Enchantment Master (Go through the board but don't unlock the Legendary Node)
  • Ceaseless Conduit (Go through the board but don't unlock the Legendary Node)

Best Enchantments for Chain Lightning Sorcerer build in Diablo 4

Enchantments are passive buffs that complement your primary skills by enhancing their effects. However, you can only have two Enchantment skills active at a time. The first Enchantment skill slot is unlocked at level 15 by completing the  "Legacy of the Magi" Priority quest, whereas the second slot is unlocked simply by reaching level 30.

Here are the best Enchantments for the Lightning Sorcerer build:

  • Teleport: Evade is replaced with a short range Teleport on a 17 seconds cooldown.
  • Fire Bolt: Direct damage from Skills applies up to an additional 23% x(damage) burning damage over 8 seconds.

The Teleport skill is vital for your survival, and the Teleport Enchantment lets you use to activate this skill every time you dodge. It does bump up your dodge cooldown to 17 seconds, but you get to use Teleport three more times in a minute which is incredible. Furthermore, you can synergize this with the Raiment of the Infinite Ancestral Unique Chest Armor to inflict Stun on enemies every time you Teleport.

With Fire Bolt, your Skills will also apply Burning Damage. This will be in addition to Ice and Lightning, so you will be dealing all three damage at once, making you an elemental beast.

Best Gems for the Chain Lightning Sorcerer build in Diablo 4 Season 1

Gems have the power to make your build even more powerful. You can use them to enhance the damage of a particular skill, improve critical chance or improve your defenses.

For Chain Lightning Sorcerer, we recommend the following Gems:

  • Emerald on Weapons: Increases Critical Strike damage to Vulnerable enemies
  • Ruby on Armor: Increases Maximum Life
  • Topaz on Armor: Increases Damage Reduction while Control Impaired
