The Necromancer is one of the best classes to consider taking into Season 1 of Diablo 4. It is arguably also beginner-friendly, as you can cast spells from range and summon undead to tank enemies for you. But it doesn't stop there, as the class offers tons of versatility as you drill down into its specifics. An official lore description reads:

Necromancers are cunning summoners that conjure vengeful hordes of the undead. Their Essence flows into three powerful bastions of Bone, Blood, or Shadow to bring low their enemies.

Check out the official cinematic trailer for the Necromancer class below to get the blood flowing, no pun intended.

The Necromancer uses Essence as its resource to cast Bone, Blood, and Shadow spells, both offensively and defensively. The class features the unique Book of the Dead mechanic to customize your army of undead further.

The class' unique Dismount ability sees the player jump from their mount and slam into the ground. Releases a cone of Bone Magic to damage enemies nearby. But enough preamble, let's dive into the build you're all here for!

Still with us? Well done, but we are only about halfway through our in-depth best Diablo 4 Season 1 Necromancer build guide!

Diablo 4 Necromancer Book of the Dead

The Book of the Dead is the unique ability granted to Necromancers, allowing us to employ the Raise Skeleton and Golem skills, thereby summoning an army of undead minions to fight alongside us. Additionally, we have the option to sacrifice these minions, which provides distinct passive bonuses depending on the type we choose to sacrifice. This allows us to tailor our strategy by deciding which minions to summon and which ones to sacrifice, offering a variety of viable combinations to suit different builds.

  • Skeletal Warriors - Reapers (Corpse Formation)
  • ‍Skeletal Mages - Shadow (Additional Shadow Bolt)
  • Sacrifice Golems - Bone (Attack Speed)

Best Gems For Necromancers in Diablo 4

Pick the best gems for your class build in Diablo 4 Season 1 to get an edge against massive foes such as World Bosses. (Picture: Blizzard)

The best Gems for your Corpse Bomb Necromancer build in Diablo 4 Season 1 should complement your skill selection and fill in some blanks where you might be lacking, or buff specific traits such as Essence generation. Our gem picks and reasons for adding them to specific slots can be found below.

  • Royale Ruby - Add to weapon for increased Essence generation.
  • Royale Skull - Add to Armor for +healing.

Although you might be tempted to incorporate another Gem into your build, consider holding off and instead exploring one of the exciting new features introduced in Season 1 – the Malignant Hearts. Not familiar with them and their effects? No worries, as we'll cover that in the following section.

Best Malignant Hearts For Necromancer in Diablo 4 S1

Moving on, let's explore one of the newer features coming to Diablo 4 in Season 1 – the Malignant Hearts feature. This season introduces a fresh questline that challenges players to hunt down Malignant Monsters scattered throughout Sanctuary. Upon defeating these creatures, Caged Hearts are dropped, which can be inserted into Jewelry sockets to gain powers that alter your character's build. Below, we've ranked the Malignant Hearts that are useful for this build, based on their importance.

Power up your character to Archangel-like strength using the following Malignant Hearts in Season 1. (Picture: Blizzard)
  • Sacrilegious (Vicious): By choosing this option, we can ensure that Corpse Tendrils are cast every second, maintaining Vulnerable status on enemies continuously and stacking them permanently. To fully utilize this Aspect, we can remove Corpse Explosion from our skill bar and let it be automatically cast, thus ensuring a constant activation of Corpse Tendrils.
  • The Great Feast (Wrathful): This offers a substantial 75% damage boost, but it comes at the price of draining 5 Essence per second. If we can manage this cost, it becomes our most effective DPS choice for Malignant Hearts.
  • Revenge (Brutal): Selecting Revenge grants us the benefit of absorbing 20% of incoming damage, essentially providing a consistent and unconditional 20% damage reduction.

The displayed stats represent what a level 20 character would receive as a drop. It's important to note that this list is based on our early opinions on Malignant Hearts, and we'll update it as necessary.
