Diablo 4 Codex Of Power & Legendary Aspects Explained

Diablo 4 has several new and powerful features. One new feature, in particular, is the Codex of Power and its alignment with Legendary Aspects in Diablo 4.

So in this guide, we're going to break down everything you need to know about the Codex of Power and the Legendary Aspects that come with it in Diablo 4. We'll also touch on some of its limitations and how its best used in the game.

Update on 18 July 2023: We've updated this article with the latest Diablo 4 Codex of Power information so you know everything about Legendary Aspects and how to use them.

Diablo 4 Codex Of Power & Legendary Aspects Explained

Simply put, the Codex of Power is an item in Diablo 4 that stores a collection of Legendary Aspects that you collect as you play through dungeons in the game. It can also store Legendary Aspects extracted from certain pieces of gear thanks to the "Aspect Extraction" ability of the Occultist, as we've detailed in our Occultist guide here

Once you have your Codex of Power chocked to the brim with Legendary Aspects, you can take it to the Occultist and have them imprint these Aspects on Rare and Legendary pieces of gear. Rare items turn into Legendaries with the affixes that were previously on that item, plus the newly added Legendary Power, while Legendaries have their existing Legendary Affix overwritten with the new one.

Something to note is that when you collect a Legendary Aspect, you can imprint it onto gear items indefinitely. But if you extract an Aspect, it's immediately consumed when you imprint it, meaning it's only usable once. Also, while the Codex of Power is a great way to reroll your Aspects and target specific builds for your characters, it does come with a few drawbacks, namely:

You can Imprint Legendary Aspects onto your gear with the Codex of Power, but it does have some drawbacks as stated below. (Picture: WoWHead)
  • Not All Legendary Aspects: The Codex of Power does not contain every single Aspect of every single Legendary in the game as you fight through the game's dungeons. This means that you need to do some grinding to defeat armies of demons and find some Legendaries the old-fashioned way.
  • Lowest Roll Imprint: When an Aspect from the Codex of Power is imprinted, it does so with the lowest roll possible for that item. So if you wanted to imprint "Thorns damage done deals a [20-40]% chance to deal damage to all opponents around," it would automatically Imprint 20% probability. So it will always imprint the lowest roll for the Aspect.

And that's everything you need to know about the Codex of Power and Legendary Aspects in Diablo 4. Be sure to think carefully about your Aspects and which pieces of gear they'll go best with to give you the best chances of success in Diablo 4.
