With Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 Season 01, the developers are significantly changing the Prestige system. Prestige has been around in Call of Duty titles as long as we can remember once a player goes over Rank 55.
This article explains the Prestige cap for Warzone 2, and Modern Warfare 2, the big change, and the different Ranks and rewards players can earn, so let's get started.
Update on 17 November 2022: With Warzone 2 and MW2 Season 01 now released, we've updated this article to reflect the latest information on Prestige Ranks.
Big Warzone 2 & MW2 Prestige Change
In past Call of Duty titles, including the original Warzone, a player's Prestige Rank reset once a season is over. For both Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2, this will not be the case. Instead, players can continue ranking up in the next season from where they left off.
Activision explains the benefits of this significant Prestige change: "At the end of Season 01, players can continue ranking up from wherever they ended up on the Prestige Ranks. This allows players who may not have enough time to level up to catch up in later seasons, while also not resetting the progress of anyone who reached the Max Rank during that season."
This persistent Prestige Rank across all seasons should be a welcome change, and it looks like there will be quite a few nice rewards along the way that you can work towards.
Warzone 2 & MW2 Prestige Ranks & Rewards
Once reaching Rank 56, players will unlock Prestige 1 in Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. This will provide them with an Emblem, "additional rewards," and a set of challenges. Once you complete those challenges, an exclusive Calling Card will be permanently unlocked.
Every Prestige Rank in MW2 and WZ2 will unlock more challenges and rewards. At the time of writing, the exact rewards and challenges have not been revealed. We do, however, know that there are five Prestige Ranks in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, namely:
- Prestige 1: Unlocked at Rank 56
- Prestige 2: Unlocked at Rank 100
- Prestige 3: Unlocked at Rank 150
- Prestige 4: Unlocked at Rank 200
- Prestige 5: Unlocked at Rank 250

What is the Prestige Cap in WZ2 & MW2?
The maximum Rank, aka the level cap for Warzone 2 and MW2 Season 01, is 250. That is Prestige 5, and the developers note that it is: "the level cap until the end of Season 01." Therefore, we assume that later seasons will increase the Prestige Rank/Level cap further, possibly with Season 02 going to Prestige 10.
