Following months of interviews, rumors, and cryptic tweets, veteran game director Hideo Kojima revealed the next gaming release from his production studio, Kojima Productions, at The Game Awards 2022. While it doesn't come as a surprise, the official World Premiere of Death Stranding 2 still surprised many, given reports of other gaming releases planned or in development by Kojima.
The announcement was accompanied by a nearly five-minute-long teaser trailer that showcases what we can expect in the sequel, and there are some Easter Eggs left for us to find. We explored what we know thus far about the upcoming action game Death Stranding 2, including its release date, launch platforms, and more.

Death Stranding 2 didn't appear at the recent PlayStation Showcase but we are keeping our ears to the ground.
Death Stranding 2: Release Date Speculation & Platform
Kojima Productions announced during The Game Awards 2022 that the sequel to 2019's critically acclaimed action game, Death Stranding, is currently in development. Under the working title, Death Stranding 2, the game was revealed with a teaser trailer; however, no release date was announced. We would speculate that the game won't release any earlier than Q3/Q4 in 2024.
It was confirmed that Kojima would write and direct the sequel with Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker as returning cast members, with Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna set to join. Death Stranding and its Director's Cut is available for PlayStation 4 and 5, PC, and recently, a PC port via Xbox Game Pass as of 23rd August 2022.
Death Stranding 2 (DS2) – Everything We Know
The game's announcement at The Game Awards confirms months' worth of cryptic tweets and promotional work at various gaming conventions, including PAX Australia, in October 2022. These cryptic imageries accompanied the words, "Where am I?" and "Who am I?" alongside pictures of Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and an unknown figure now revealed to be Léa Seydoux.
This also confirms earlier comments by The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus who confirmed the project in an interview in May 2022. He revealed that following the production and subsequent launch of Death Stranding, it gained plenty of attention and won awards, "so we just started part two of that."
During the interview at The Game Awards, Kojima discussed some details regarding the game's development; he stated, "I can't really be specific right now, but you've just seen the trailer, and I've put a lot of things inside, so I want you guys to talk about it and find details in it."
The scripting work was completed before the COVID-19 pandemic; however, the veteran game director revealed that he opted to revise it. "Well, I had the story written before the pandemic, but after experiencing the pandemic, I just rewrote the whole thing, the story from scratch. I also didn't want to predict any more futures, so I rewrote it."
The game's teaser trailer reveals that Death Stranding 2 will utilize the Decima Engine, developed by Guerrilla Games, which was previously used for Until Dawn, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Death Stranding. More recently, Horizon Forbidden West and its upcoming expansion, Burning Shores, used the updated version of the game engine alongside Death Stranding 2.
Aside from the returning and new cast members, Death Stranding 2 will reportedly launch on PlayStation consoles, with a possibility of a PC release. There's no telling whether the game will be made available for the Xbox platform, but we're hoping it will follow suit with a PC port release launching at some point post-release via Xbox Game Pass.
